Abstract: The recent progresses in experimental and theoretical studies of the collision between swift heavy ion and solids as well as electron emission induced by swift heavy ion in solids were briefly reviewed. Three models, Coulomb explosion, thermal spike and repulsive long lived states, for interpreting the atomic displacements stimulated by the electronic energy loss were discussed.
